Brașov is perhaps the most pleasant mountain base in Romania: a superb medieval town with a ski resort 20 minutes away. This weekend combines a walk through the historic centre with the fresh air of Postăvaru. It works all year — winter for skiing, summer for easy hikes. Check the weather and read the Brașov – Poiana Brașov page.
Ziua 1 — Medieval Brașov
Spend the morning in the old centre: the Black Church, the Council Square, Rope Street and the citadel walls. In the afternoon ride the cable car up Tâmpa for the panorama over the town. It is a relaxed city day, with good food and cafés. Sleep in Brașov — see accommodation and guesthouses.
Ziua 2 — Poiana Brașov and Postăvaru
Move to Poiana Brașov (roughly 20 minutes by car) and take the cable car toward Postăvaru. In winter it is a ski domain; in summer you do an easy hike on the Poiana Brașov – Postăvaru route, roughly 2–4 hours return depending on where you start. The panorama toward the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului is splendid.
Tips
- Parking is difficult in central Brașov; leave the car and walk.
- The cable car to Postăvaru has queues on winter weekends — arrive early.
- Postăvaru is good for beginner hikers too: clear paths, good markings.
- After the hike, a warm soak nearby rounds off the weekend — see the thermal baths.
