How to read mountain weather Weather at altitude changes far faster than in town: temperature drops as you climb, wind lashes the ridges, and fog can descend in minutes. The data above is updated automatically for the main areas, but stays indicative — before any outing, check the official forecast and the trail conditions.

What matters, by season Summer (June–September) is the window for high-altitude hiking, but afternoons often bring electrical storms on the ridge — start early and descend in time. In winter, beyond temperature, watch the snow depth and avalanche risk; for the slopes the resort report is what counts, and for trails, the conditions on the ground.

Before you leave Combine the forecast with the mountain road status and the live cameras in webcams to see the sky and snow for yourself. Pack the right gear, tell someone your route and return time, and keep Salvamont to hand. The mountain is superb, but it doesn't negotiate with city trainers.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the mountain forecast?

We show it from automatic weather sources (Open-Meteo) and it is indicative. At altitude, weather changes abruptly — always also check official sources (Meteo România, Salvamont) and the conditions on the ground before setting off.

Where do I see snow depth and open slopes?

Snow reports and open runs are announced by each resort on its own official channel; we don't show open slopes we can't confirm. See the areas on the ski page and check your chosen resort.

What do I do if the weather turns on the trail?

Turn back in time, don't push the ridge in a storm or fog, take shelter, and call 112 or Salvamont (0725 826 668) if needed. Prevention — checking the weather beforehand — is the best rescue.
