Cabana Rarău

Cabana Rarău is a mountain hut at roughly 1400 m, located in the Rarău massif in Bucovina, near the spectacular Pietrele Doamnei (Lady's Rocks). It is also accessible by road, making it a fitting destination for families and for anyone wanting an easy contact with the mountains.

Set on the Rarău plateau, surrounded by spruce forest, the hut offers a comfortable starting point toward the limestone crags and the viewpoints of the area. The Bucovinian atmosphere and the nearness of the region's monasteries make it a much-loved spot.

Getting there

The easiest access is by car, on the road known as the Transrarău, which climbs onto the plateau from Câmpulung Moldovenesc or Chiril (the Bistrița Valley). From the parking area you reach the hut quickly on foot.

For hiking, the marked trail climbs from the valley through forest; check the markings at the trailhead, as there are several ascent variants.

From the hut start short, accessible trails toward the massif's main objectives:

• the Rarău – Pietrele Doamnei route, toward the emblematic limestone crags
• viewpoint walks on the plateau, with panoramas over the Bucovina hills (Obcine)
• short strolls suitable for children, around the hut

Tips

The accessible season is long, from spring through autumn; in winter the road may be closed or difficult. Check availability in advance, especially on weekends and in the tourist season.

Even though the trails are easy, bring good footwear and a rain jacket. Check the weather and keep Salvamont mountain rescue at hand for any emergency.
