Canionul Șapte Scări

Șapte Scări Canyon is a narrow crack in the limestone of the Piatra Mare Mountains, where water has cut a series of steps and waterfalls now climbed on metal ladders bolted into the wall. The name says exactly what happens: you go up rung by rung through a wet, cool corridor, the rock centimetres from your shoulders and the roar of the water amplified by the walls. It is short in distance but intense — and nothing like an ordinary ridge path.

Access is from Dâmbul Morii, on a forest path; the canyon is walked one way only, with the descent on a different route. Above, the plateau opens the routes toward Piatra Mare, and an adventure park with ziplines operates nearby if you want to stretch the day.

Good to know The ladders are slippery in rain and can be closed in winter, when the canyon freezes — always check the mountain weather and the Salvamont advice before setting out.
