Cabana Caraiman

Cabana Caraiman is a chalet spectacularly set on the Caraiman ridge, at roughly 2025 m, right below the famous Heroes' Cross (Crucea Caraiman), in the Prahova Valley – Bucegi area. From here opens one of the finest views over the Prahova Valley and the town of Bușteni far below.

Its position on the edge of the Prahova cliffs makes it an unmissable spot for hikers, offering both a well-earned rest and a launch point toward the plateau and the Heroes' Cross monument, just a few minutes away.

Getting there

• From Bușteni, on the path to Crucea Caraiman (blue cross / blue stripe marking), a sustained climb of about 4–5 hours — see the Bușteni – Crucea Caraiman trail.
• From Cabana Babele or across the plateau, an easy descent on marked paths, about 45–60 minutes.
• A combination using the Bușteni cable car to Babele, then on foot to Caraiman.

What to do from here

• Visit the Heroes' Cross on Caraiman, an iconic monument of the Bucegi.
• Climb up to Cabana Babele and the Sphinx and Babele formations.
• Continue toward Omu Peak across the plateau for a longer outing.

Tips

• The recommended season is May–October; the ridge is exposed to wind and fog.
• Check accommodation availability in advance, as this is a very popular chalet.
• Do not approach the cliff edge in bad weather. Check the weather and save the Mountain Rescue number.
