Covasna

Covasna is known as the resort of a thousand springs, and the reputation is no exaggeration: dozens of carbonated mineral waters and dry carbon-dioxide emanations rise from the volcanic bedrock of the Harghita–Covasna area. On that mixture one of Romania's most serious spa traditions was built, with a cardiovascular focus — the mofettes, the carbonated baths and the graded walking cure are part of local routine here, not just visitor attractions.

The resort has the quiet charm of places in no hurry to modernise: shaded avenues, interwar villas, a central park where people stroll in the evening. Beyond the treatment, the surroundings are unexpectedly wild — deep forests, logging roads, and the old inclined plane at Comandău, a technical curiosity from the timber era.

Good to know The full cure follows medical advice, but the mofettes and the walks are for anyone. Saint Ana Lake and Băile Tușnad fit naturally into the same trip, linked by the trail to Saint Ana. See the other thermal baths, accommodation in the resort, and the mountain weather.
