Parcul Natural Bucegi

National park

Parcul Natural Bucegi

Bucegi Nature Park covers the suspended plateau above the Prahova Valley, between Sinaia, Bușteni and Predeal — a wind-scoured alpine tableland of dwarf pine, sheep flocks and weather-carved rock, the Sphinx and Babele among them. It is one of the few places in the Carpathians where a cable car lifts you into the alpine belt in minutes and you can then walk for hours without dropping out of it.

The protected area takes in the Bucegi cliffs and the glacial cirques, and trails come at it from several sides: Babele–Omu across the plateau, Bușteni–Caraiman Cross below the wall, or the descent to Ialomița Cave on the Ialomița side. The high point remains Omu Peak, where the weather turns fastest.

Good to know The plateau is open ground with no natural shelter: fog, summer lightning and winter blizzards are the real hazard, not the gradient. Check the mountain weather and keep the mountain rescue numbers at hand. Huts, cable cars and the rest of the sights are covered in Prahova Valley & Bucegi.
