Peștera Ialomiței opens in the wall of the Ialomița Gorges, beside the little monastery glued to the rock, in one of the most photogenic corners of the Bucegi. The entrance is vast and swallows the daylight within a few metres: the air turns cold abruptly, the noise of the water stays outside, and the arranged gallery can be walked without gear or caving experience. It is a short visit, but a memorable one — the kind of stop that changes the rhythm of a day spent on the plateau.
The cave is really the southern gateway to the massif. You reach it by car from Moroeni and Padina, or by descending from the plateau after a day at Babele and Mount Omu, and from its doorstep starts the route to Omu via Obârșia Ialomiței, one of the quietest itineraries in Bucegi Natural Park. The rest of the area — Sinaia, Bușteni, Peleș Castle — links naturally into a weekend loop.
Good to know It is consistently cold inside, whatever the season, so a warm jacket helps even in August. Access roads across the plateau can be closed or rough in winter and after heavy rain, so check the mountain weather before you set out and the Salvamont advice if you plan to continue along the ridge.
