Pietrosul Rodnei is the highest summit of the Eastern Carpathians, at roughly 2303 m, and the high point of a massif that looks unlike its neighbours: true glacial cirques, small lakes caught below the ridge, wide alpine pasture and, underneath it all, a biosphere reserve where the bear is at home.
The classic ascent leaves from Borșa on Borșa–Pietrosul Rodnei — a long day, with serious height gain and a final section over scree. It pairs naturally with Horses' Waterfall, the most spectacular in the area, and in winter with the Borșa ski area.
Good to know You are inside Rodna Mountains National Park: stay on the waymarked routes, camping is regulated, and encounters with large wildlife are not a theoretical possibility.
