La Om Peak, also known as Piscul Baciului, is the highest point of Piatra Craiului, at roughly 2238 m. It has none of the bearing of a classic summit — it is a rise on a long, thin limestone ridge, in places so narrow that you walk with a valley on one side and empty air on the other. On the ledges below grows the Piatra Craiului pink, endemic here and nowhere else.
The usual approaches come from Curmătura or along the Piatra Craiului ridge, the full traverse being one of the most serious in the Southern Carpathians. The gentle option for a first day in the massif remains Zărnești–Curmătura hut, with a night at Curmătura hut.
Good to know The ridge is exposed, without water and without quick escape routes; afternoon storms are the main danger. Check the mountain weather and keep mountain rescue to hand. Access rules are those of Piatra Craiului National Park, and stays and other sights are in the Zărnești area.
